Sándor Lau is New Zealand's only Chinese/Hungarian-American. He came to Aotearoa as a Fulbright scholar in 2000 and has made this his home ever since.

To make his first documentary, BEHAVIOURS OF THE BACKPACKER (1X1HR), Sándor walked 500km from Auckland to Cape Reinga, New Zealand's geographic and spiritual tip. BEHAVIOURS OF THE BACKPACKER has enjoyed repeat screenings on TVNZ and Mäori Television, is now on DVD, and made its US television premiere in 2006.

Sándor has also worked as a television reporter on TVNZ's weekly magazine programme, ASIA DOWN UNDER, specializing in social justice and the kinds of news the news leaves out.

As a writer and journalist, Sándor's work has been published in many anthologies, magazines, newspapers, and broadcast for radio in the United States, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand. Credits include the New Zealand Herald, The NZ Listener, Radio New Zealand, and the China Post. Before coming to New Zealand, he lived in the US, Mexico, Spain, France and Taiwan and speaks good French and Spanish and basic Chinese and Mäori. Sándor has a Master's degree in film and television production from the University of Auckland and can also make fire with sticks.

Rhonda Kite is a Mäori woman of Te Aupouri tribe. Her passion for the Mäori language, culture, and storytelling are reflected in her many award-winning documentary and drama television programmes, including-OTARA: DEFYING THE ODDS (1X1HR DOC), THE TRUTH ABOUT MÄORI (1X1HR DOC), GANG KIDS (1X1HR DOC), KETE ARONUI (MÄORI ARTS SERIES) and MATAKU (MÄORI DRAMA SERIES). She is committed to the preservation, promotion, and guardianship of Mäori culture and values through her storytelling.

Mäori businesswoman of the year in 2001, Rhonda owns and manages Kiwa Film and Television Productions Ltd. and Eden Post Productions, an AVID and audio studio. She has recently completed a five-year project with the invention of a software based ADR cueing system, which is now being distributed in the USA and Europe.

Moving into theatrical film, Rhonda is currently developing a slate of features, two of which are international co-productions with UK, Canadian and Australian co-producers and the NZ film Commission.

Synopsis

Starfish is a Mäori man who survives by washing car windows at intersections on the mean streets of South Auckland, New Zealand. He's a born hustler with an extreme personality-magnetic charisma, infectious humour, and a vicious temper.

SQUEEGEE BANDIT follows Starfish's struggles through nine months, three cars, two women, thirty residences, three weeks of homelessness, a hundred run-ins with the cops, one court date, a kilo of marijuana, a closet full of skeletons,
finding God and the Zen of window washing.
